Description
The most common traditional wooden Aegean boat, is still being built today. Records about building trehantiri date back to the 17th century in Hydra. The bow is sharp with straight sternpost and curved with a hooked ending, named “crow”. A wide boat with exceptional endurance in storms; was used as merchant, sponge harvesting and fishing boat, as in our days. Trehantiri with one or two masts had various sail types. When boat engines emerged, and before sailors trusted them, they kept the fore-mast with “rada” sail type. These boats were called “bouma”, and they were motor boats with sails, entering a new era of motor propelled boats.
Stoneware clay, 1160oC
