Maria Stavros Lalaouni (b.1957, Xanthi, Greece) grew up in Athens where she studied Film Direction at the Hellenic Cinema and Television School Stavrakos. She has been involved with the ceramic art since 1981. In 1985 she left Athens and established her first workshop in Promiri, Pelion. She chose to establish her creative research as closer to nature and its beneficial wisdom as possible. In 1991, she relocated to Volos where she intensified her artistic activity: carvings, wall compositions and clay sculptures made of stoneware combined with ceramic colors and glazes in a strongly personal way. Her studies in Film Direction have affected strongly the character of her work:

“The figures, sculptures and objects I make are the heroes of a motion picture in progress, always claiming their position in the frame.” ML
