Fleur-de-lis
My love for the Scout movement as well as my many years of service in the Greek National Scout Organization inspired me in creating, in my own personal design, the Scout emblem, by using some of my favorite materials such as wood, leather and leaf of gold.
The fleur-de-lis symbolizes the compass rose that sea explorers were using, in order to find the North.
Robert Baden-Powell, the founder of the Scouting movement, explained[2] that the Scouts adopted the fleur-de-lis symbol from its use in the compass rose because it “points in the right direction (and upwards) turning neither to the right nor left, since these lead backward again.”
All nations use a variation of the fleur-de-lis as a Scout emblem each one of them having a different insignia at its center.
In Greece we use the Phoenix reborn from the ashes, something that our country has done numerous times in its struggles throughout the course of history.
