Wood carving 1306

The ancient greek and roman roofs had an inclination of 30 degrees and their edges were covered with acroteria in order to be protected from the intrusion of birds and snakes. They were made by using clay or marble. Their surface was decorated with elaborate designs of faces, plants and animals.
The survival of an acroterion on a roof or the shelf of a bookcase is a matter of luck. According to tradition, the possession of one and the beauty that emits from it is a sign of good fortune.
