Description

The greek karavoskaro was adapted from large sailing ships, during the 19th century, when the “sala” method was used for building large ships, whereas “monochnaro” was used for smaller traditional boats. A distinctive feature was the elliptic stern shape on the deck level, and the high chin bow. With two or three masts, their cargo capacity was up to 500 tonnes. Κaravoskaro ships had various sail types. This one, called briki or brikion, has two masts with rada square sails (epidromo) on the main and the fore-mast, and jibs on the sprit topmast.
