Description

Karavoskaro Lovero
The greek karavoskaro was adapted from large sailing ships during the 19th century, when the “sala” method was used for building large ships, whereas “monochnaro” was used for smaller, traditional boats. A distinctive feature was the elliptic stern shape on the deck level, and the high chin bow. With two or three masts, their cargo capacity was up to 500 tonnes. Lovero is a greek word altered from lover rigging, composed of two masts with rada sail type and jibs. The small triangle and the square sails between the two masts (straliera), were added to the larger karavoskaro ships.
